Treherne Water & Sewer Renewal Project - 2018 Phase II

September 5, 2018: Swabbing did not go as well as hoped and some excavating will be occurring on Railway Ave at Oborne St. Once the adjustment has been made the new line will have to be re-pressurized with more chlorinating and testing to occur. The latter part of this week and next, will be quieter as temporary service lines will be created and connected to residents/businesses from the Waterplant to Kelly Ave.

September 4, 2018: This afternoon further swabbing and chlorinating will occur. Loss of pressure may occur and brown water may result from this process. If you have discolored water please open a cold water tap and let run for 5 minutes, turn off and let sit for 30 minutes and check again. If the discolored water still persists by Thursday afternoon, please call the office at (204)723-2044 or e-mail info@treherne.ca.

August 30, 2018: Phase 1 where 800 meters of new waterline from the Service Road to Oborne St has been installed, all tests completed, passed and now ready for filling! On Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st this new line will be filled where swabbing, chlorinating and further testing will be completed. Once tests are approved this new line will "go live" and be added to the existing system. During this process there may be some loss of pressure as a fire hydrant will be used to fill the line and brown water may be experienced due to the disturbance. If you have discolored water please open a cold water tap and let run for 5 minutes, turn off and let sit for 30 minutes and check again. On Tuesday, if you still have dark water please contact the office at 204-723-2044 or email info@treherne.ca

August 24, 2018: Disinfection test results for the temporary waterline on Railway Avenue have been completed and passed. Mac's Rentals will be connecting to the existing watermain and connecting buildings west of Oborne Street on Railway Avenue to temporary water servicing. This may require a water shut off this morning. In the next couple of days, Mac's will be completing the watermain tie in at the intersection of Railway Ave and Oborne St.

August 17, 2018:  The Treherne Water & Sewer Renewal project has started and a hydrant was opened at the North end of town. Since opening the hydrant, discolored water has been reported to the Municipal Office in the Wilcox Drive area and therefore we will be flushing the hydrant until clear on Wilcox Drive later this afternoon. After flushing, if you have discolored water please open a cold water tap and let run for 5 minutes, turn off and let sit for 30 minutes and check again. On Monday, if you still have dark water please contact the office at 204-723-2044 or email info@treherne.ca. Thank you

RE: TREHERNE WATER AND SEWER RENEWAL PROJECT PHASE II

Dear Resident,

The Municipal Office would like to notify you that Phase II of the water main and sewer main renewal project commenced August 13, 2018 with the contract being awarded to Mac’s Rentals (1986) Ltd. The first phase scheduled includes the installation of new water lines from the Service Road by Treherne Collision to create a loop that will connect to Oborne Street. The next portion of the project includes the installation of a new watermain from the waterplant down Alexander Street to Kelly Ave and then splits to Wilcox Drive and Clark Street. The water main along the backlane south of Railway Ave from Smith Street to Boyne Street connecting to Alexander Street will also be completed. Other water mains may be added if funding allows. The last component of this contract includes sewer main and manhole repairs in various sections of town. These repairs will continue througout the fall with the hope of completing this project in 2018.

Water mains affected by this project include: Alexander Street, west side Kelly Ave, Wilcox Drive, Clark Street, and backlane south of Railway Avenue between Boyne Street and Smith Street. It is expected that each block will have the water main shut down for a few days to weeks while they are installing and connecting the new main to each service line. Temporary water service lines will be used to provide services to the affected homes/businesses where the service will be disconnected for several hours or more. The contractor will inform those specifically affected with the details of how this connection and temporary service will be provided. All properties need an outside tap to have these services connected. The contractor will need access to homes to operate the inside water valve and will also check private sewer connections when required. Roadways may be closed off as the work progresses and howeowners may need to make temporary arrangements for vehicle access during this time. Curbstops have been located and some are on private property – these will be removed and new lines and curbstops will be installed on public property. Residents need to allow contractors access to the curbstop to make these necessary repairs. There will be digging in the boulevard as well as on private property to connect your water line to the new water main. It is inevitable that some infrastructure and trees may need to be removed as the new water main line is placed. Topsoil for each excavated area may be a few inches higher to allow for settlement. The contractor will make arrangements to water all areas seeded until sprouted but then homeowners are expected to assist after contractors leave. Repair work, including sidewalk and pavement reconstruction may not be completed until the watermain and sewer work is completed so we ask residents to please be patient as this will take time.

Discolored water will likely occur as flushing and hydrant use througout the project may be required. We recommend if you experience discolored water to let the cold water tap run for 5 minutes and then let it settle for 30 minutes. If water is still discolored after a day or two – please call the office to notify.

The main part of this project is to be completed in September/October with sewer repairs continuing until December, should the weather hold out. Mac’s Rentals (1986) Ltd. is the contractor that is responsible for the project . They will provide notice to residents where mains will be replaced with specific details to those directly affected along with their contact information. Check website under notices for updates as project progresses.

Sincerely,

Municipality of Norfolk Treherne
